The Blurb
Ellie Redford has a husband, a job and a home. According to the rest of the world, it’s baby o’clock already. Shame life doesn’t come with a recipe…
Ellie knows that starting a family with lovely husband Pete would be an amazing adventure. Pete would make a brilliant dad and she’d have an excuse to eat shed loads of Cherry Bakewell. But Ellie’s bestie would rather she was up at 3am with a bottle of Malibu, not formula. And with redundancies looming, Ellie’s boss isn’t exactly going to throw her a shower if she disappears for a year, with pay.
While Ellie juggles her feelings (and everyone else’s) as competently as a drunken clown, she finds herself signing up for a baking class, alongside the young, free and sizzling hot Joe. As they work buns and shape tarts, is there more to their friendship than a shared appreciation of Paul Hollywood?
Ellie’s soufflés may be rising, but her personal life is one big soggy mess. If she doesn’t make a decision soon, she may just lose everything that matters to her. Maybe it’s time to take off the pinny and face up to the truth: there’s more to life than cupcakes…
The Review
Thank you to Novelicious Books for sending me a copy to read and review.
Ellie Redford has the perfect life – an amazing husband, brilliant friends and a job she actually loves, she’s got it good, right?
I’ve been looking forward to reading ‘There’s More to Life Than Cupcakes’ for so long now and unfortunately when I finished I wasn’t as blown away as I thought I would be.
Now, don’t get wrong it was written perfectly and because of this it took me less than a week to read and the character of Ellie was great, but certain parts made me feel a little sad for Ellie.
Ellie is struggling with a decision as to whether or not she should become a Mother. Her mind is over thinking and her stomach is doing unnecessary flips, what does she really want?
Why is it that just because you’re over 30 and married you’re expected to have a baby? If it isn’t something you feel strongly about, you shouldn’t be made to feel terrible. I wish Ellie’s family and also her husband Pete’s family didn’t treat her how they did. It seemed they were disappointed in her because there was no baby. Poor Ellie!
One thing I did love was all the references to food, my tummy is rumbling just at the thought. Cakes, Brownies, Sandwiches, Christmas Dinners, oh I could go on! Did I mention there is also Rum drinking? A girl of my own heart! My tipple of choice is Dark Rum, you see!
If you fancy reading a novel that will make you laugh and want to eat all the time, then this is the one for you!
