The Blurb
Jamie MacAfee’s life is almost perfect. She loves her fiancée, even if she hasn’t quite worked out why she won’t set a wedding date and she certainly adores her job, working as an architect on their family home renovation show. Meanwhile, her beloved mother Caroline has built up her confidence after a painful divorce, working closely alongside her daughter as the very successful host of Gut It!. Everything is going to plan, until the lives of both women are changed overnight.

When the TV network plan to replace Caroline with Jamie as the show’s host, Caroline is left feeling horribly betrayed – and old in the eyes of the world. Then tragedy strikes, leaving Jamie guardian to her small orphaned step-brother and fiancée to a man who doesn’t want the child.

As the blueprints they’ve built their lives around go up in flames, loyalties shift and new relationships tempt. Jamie and Caroline must decide what they really want – and discover where their future lies…

The Review
Jamie and Caroline are a mother – daughter combo that host a home makeover show called Gut It!. Jamie is the young architect and Caroline is the shows host, they work great together. Things take a horrible turn for the worst as Caroline is dropped as host of the show and replaced by her daughter Jamie – a little salt in the wounds perhaps? Not only does Caroline have to deal with her role change, she too has to contend with the death of her ex-husband, awfully bad luck!

Blueprints was a story all about the female species and how they behave in different times of their lives. Jamie the young and carefree character with Caroline the mature and experience side of the duo. I have to admit I felt Caroline was a little self pitying. I know she’s been divorced and it’s probably not the nicest thing to experience, but I’m not a fan of woman who believe they need a man to be a better person, etc. Be independent and enjoy life!

The death of her father clearly is unexpected and even more so when she finds out she’s the legal guardian of her younger brother. Talk about life changing. I couldn’t imagine being told that you have to become the parent to your younger brother and have to look after him for the rest of your life. I’m sure Jamie wanted children with her fiancée, but to become a parent like this? Wow, heartbreaking.

Blueprints definitely made me realise that life is ever changing and you should live it to the full. Each day is different from the next and should never be taken for granted.
